Honeymoon Destinations in India

Traditionally referred to as the land of legends, magic, gold and history, India has always had a mystic appeal. Honeymoon destinations in India attract newly weds from different parts of the world. Tourists since time immemorial have been attracted to the shores of this fascinating peninsular country that dominates the Indian sub-continent with majestic mountains, deep seas, arid deserts, and mystical forests.
Agra, in U.P., is a very popular honeymoon destination. It is rated highly among couples for its magical appeal. The monumental Taj Mahal has given the city of Agra a romantic character. Tomb of the 17th century queen Arjumand Bano Begum or Mumtaz Mahal, as she was popularly referred to, breathes a love story that is all pervading and affects the entire city’s atmosphere. Emperor Shah Jahan declared his undying love for his deceased wife in a manner that remains unparalled in history till date. What better way to begin the most beautiful days of your married existence than to sit hand in hand with the Taj in the backdrop playing chaperone.
Kerala is another popular honeymoon destination in India. This picturesque Indian state has it all, spice plantations, wildlife sanctuaries, deep woods, tea gardens, backwaters, beaches and hills. Honeymooners can easily choose from holiday packages that exhibit the best of ‘God’s Own Country’. Newly weds can easily hire a traditional rice barge or houseboat and explore the backwaters that form the arterial vein of the state’s geography.
Goa is one of the most popular Indian honeymoon destinations. Set on the shores of the Arabian Sea, this state has always had a westernized feel to it. Just the place for honeymooners, Goa offers scope for water sports, beach fun, shack parties and more. In fact, honeymooners can check into luxury seaside resorts and spend an exotic honeymoon.
Jaipur, the capital of royal Rajasthan, is another favorite romantic getaway popular with honeymooning couples across the globe. Tourists come to this regal city to experience the Rajputana as it had been in the yesteryears. A part of the old Jaipur city is still preserved as it used to be in the ancient days. The old buildings, monuments and lifestyle have been preserved such that tourists feel caught in a time warp.
The Lakshadweep Islands are very popular with newly married couples. The exotic islands with natural coral beauty create the perfect setting for couples. Almost isolated and peaceful, these islands with their sea green charm allow couples to bond as the cliché goes ‘in the lap of nature’. There is no dearth of adventure activities for newly married couples. They can try everything from deep sea fishing, scuba diving, para sailing and other water sports.
Darjeeling in West Bengal is another favorite holiday destination in India. Couples from different parts of the country and world come and spend their honeymoon in this picturesque mountain town. Acres of scented tea plantations, birds and lush hills enchant lovers. The traditional toy train ride up hill is one of the major attractions of a Darjeeling tour.
Besides the above mentioned destinations, Honeymooners can spend their holidays in other Indian exotic destinations located in Uttaranchal, Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Andaman Islands and other parts of the country.
